Yungblud at Emo's

This month I finally got to catch Yungblud at his ACL late night show in Austin.

After seeing him briefly at this year’s Warped Tour, I was immediately enamored with Yungblud and made it a priority to see him at ACL Festival. I had the opportunity to catch him a few nights before his set at an ACL Festival late night show opening for The Wombats and honestly, it was one of the greatest performances I have ever seen.

After a long day braving the heat at the festival, I made my way to Emo’s, running behind for the 10pm doors. I was exhausted, in desperate need of a shower and some Whataburger, but nevertheless excited to finally get to see a full Yungblud set.

As soon as Yungblud hit the stage, I was suddenly full of energy, the exhaustion of the day all but disappeared. I have a habit of scream-singing along to my favorite bands while in the photo pit, I’d like to think it’s endearing but who really knows, and this set was no exception. I was singing and dancing along while trying to keep the pace of Yungblud’s high-energy performance, never wanting it to be over.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who puts so much of themselves into a performance. Yungblud is one hundred percent authentic and full energy at all times, the definition of an entertainer.

With his remarkable live show and music that is breaking molds, I guarantee we’ll be seeing a lot more of Yungblud in the near future, and I can’t wait.

Dorothy in Dallas

Dorothy played to a sold out crowd at Southside Ballroom in Dallas, TX on October 3rd.

Dorothy is a female fronted rock band based in San Diego. I have been a fan of Dorothy since her “ROCKISNOTDEAD” album and was super ecstatic to catch her set again!

Dorothy took the stage and had a quick moment where she lit some sage before beginning the set. She started off with a song called “White Butterfly” that’s on her new record, 28 Days in the Valley. My favorite part about seeing Dorothy is how amazing her stage presence is, she looks so effortless, she’s very great at owning the stage. Not to mention, how well her touring band fits in on stage. It’s been a while since I personally had been to Southside Ballroom but this show was insanely packed and the crowd loved every second of it.

Dorothy puts on an amazing show that I would love to see again, especially on their own headlining tour! If you don’t listen to Dorothy, you’re missing out on an incredibly talented woman!

Troye Sivan at ACL Live

Troye Sivan brought his Bloom Tour to Austin, and I was lucky enough to be there.

I can’t even believe I’m writing this right now. I have been a massive fan of Troye Sivan since his YouTube days, so the fact that I got to photograph him and see his new live set is beyond amazing.

Over the years, I’ve seen Troye a total of three times, with each show he has gotten more and more comfortable with who he is as an artist, now, he’s a full-blown star. The first time I saw Troye was in Dallas, Texas on his Blue Neighbourhood Tour, he played mainly to a crowd of barely-teenaged girls (and then me, one of the oldest people there besides the parent chaperones), I was pleasantly surprised to see that this go around he had one of the most diverse audiences I’d seen at any show. One of my favorite parts of the show wasn’t even during the performance, rather just how comfortable to be themselves everyone was. There were LGBT kids holding rainbow flags up during every song, people in drag makeup, some even in full drag, and everyone in between.

It was impossible to not fall in love with every second of Troye’s set. For the first song, he kept it simple, standing in front of a red curtain with nothing but a microphone, then as the show went on things got more and more elaborate until he had a multi-level stage, complete with a living room setup at the very top. Apart from the production value, Troye himself is one of the most kind and charismatic performers I’ve seen. Troye really took the time to embrace each fan’s experience, making everyone feel like he was speaking and performing to them personally, even snapping selfies with fan’s phones, and taking their gifts in the middle of the set. His set had tracks from both of his albums woven together to create a perfect story as the night progressed, with my favorites being Bite (truly the banger of our generation), a cover of Better Now by Post Malone that blew me away, and the closing song My My My.

Overall, my night at the Bloom Tour was absolutely magical, I already can’t wait for Troye to come back.

Gallery: Birthday in Texas

This month I had the chance to spend a few days with Birthday at the Texas dates of his run with The Score.

If you haven’t heard a Birthday track, you’re missing out, as the kids would say, only bops here. I had an absolute blast getting to hear him play three shows, each one getting better and better.

lostboycrow- since the day i was born

Last week, Lostboycrow released “Since the Day I Was Born”, the first single off of his upcoming record, Santa Fe.

If you’ve been reading Tape and Glue Music for a while, you’ll know that I am not much of a reviewer, most of my reviews include phrases like “sis snapped” , “ wig: flew” , and “ADJFGSDFH”, but, with so much new music constantly being thrown our way, I think it’s time I step it up and write a few fancy-pants reviews, starting with the newest release from Lostboycrow.

I guess it’s pretty obvious that Lostboycrow is one of my favorite people on planet earth, so whenever he releases new music the first listen is just me being a complete fangirl (its not pretty, trust me) , then after the initial excitement settles down I really take my time to dive into the song, and let me tell you, this one is something special.

I didn’t think it was possible to be nostalgic for things that I didn't experience first-hand. Since the Day I Was Born has me not only completely invested in Lostboy’s story, but reminiscing on experiences from my own life and reflecting on their impact on who I am now. This song is the perfect balance of being personal and vulnerable but also one hundred percent relatable, especially as a 23 year old who has no idea how to navigate life.

My favorite thing about Lostboycrow is how he makes every song feel like I’ve known him my whole life, despite being a relatively new fan. Lostboy has a way of creating a substantial bond between him and the listener- before I’d had any interaction with him I’d already felt like we were close friends.

If Since the Day I Was Born is any indication of what’s to come on the rest of Santa Fe, we better buckle up and get ready for something truly amazing.
