Gallery: Yoshi Flower at SXSW

I recently had the opportunity to meet up with rising artist Yoshi Flower before his show at SXSW.

After having his newest single Dirty Water on repeat for over a month now, I could not wait to meet Yoshi Flower at this year’s SXSW festival.

I don’t get to do many portraits, so this was a ton of fun, and he could not have been any nicer. Unfortunately I couldn’t catch any of his shows, but you can bet on me being around next time he’s in town!

On March 2nd, Nightly brought their headlining tour to Mohawk in Austin, TX.

Y’all. When I tell you I was excited for this show. I have been such a big fan of Nightly for a while, their EP was the soundtrack to my entire summer so I couldn’t wait for the opportunity to hear them live.

Phangs kicked off the show with a set that was endearing, charming, and so much fun, the perfect way to start the night. He mixed in little stories throughout, sharing with the small crowd the moments in his life that inspired his music. By the end, you felt as if he was a friend, something that you don’t really get with a lot of artists now.

When Nightly came onto the stage, I suddenly forgot that we were in a little hole-in-the-wall venue. They played as if they had a crowd of a thousand people, while still making it feel like we were all a tight-knit family. Their stage presence is impeccable, they’re clearly confident when it comes to owning a stage.

My favorite part of the show was the relationship that the crowd had with not only the band, but each other. For a show with relatively younger audience, everyone was totally in sync, there wasn’t the typical pushing and shoving that comes with being in a smaller room, it made the entire experience so much more fun. The crowd was singing every word at the top of their lungs, dancing, and having the time of their lives, their energy definitely had an impact on the band, who looked overjoyed at every second.

I have a feeling that we will be hearing a lot from these guys very soon, I honestly found myself getting mad that more people aren’t talking about them once I saw this show, they are extremely talented, and after getting the chance to talk to them, they are beyond kind and gracious. You’ll definitely catch me in the crowd next time they come through.

Your New Favorite Song- 27 (Sad Signs) by Lostboycrow

Welcome back to my Lostboycrow fan page, it’s been a minute.

27 (Sad Signs), the newest release from Lostboy’s upcoming album, Santa Fe, is vulnerable, effortless, and perfect in its simplicity.

Over the last year, I have had the opportunity to watch Lostboycrow’s career grow and evolve, but he’s never once faltered in his authenticity or kindness, his music is overflowing with his genuine nature, especially within this newest record, you feel how much of his soul he put into every detail, every line tells a story, it’s intimate and heartbreaking.

In 27 (Sad Signs), more-so than any other Lostboy track so far, his raw talent is put on display right from the beginning. The first 30 seconds of this song are a haunting introduction that left me with chills, each verse adding to it until I was left torn between wanting to break into a dance or burst into tears. Lyrically, this is some of Lostboycrow’s best. It’s every bit as relatable to the listener as it is a look into a personal anecdote from Lostboy’s life, his ability to tell a story and have you fully immersed from start to finish is a gift.

With every release, Santa Fe is becoming a part of my everyday life, especially when traveling. Each song sets the perfect tone for a road trip, once you listen to these songs while chasing the sunset, you’ll never hear them the same way again.

I can’t wait to hear what’s next.

Gallery: Joan and The Aces at Scoot Inn

Oh, man do I love both of these bands.

I was so excited for the opportunity to see Joan and The Aces again, I found both of these bands as the opening act for Coin on two separate tours and it was amazing to get to see them play a show together.

Joan is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands, I’ve seen them three times now and each time I get more and more eager to hear their new music and see how much has changed over the last few years. Their debut ep, Portra, is on heavy rotation in my car and has some of my go-to “dance it out” songs.

This show was my second time seeing The Aces and I could not believe how much they had grown over the last year. The women on stage were powerful, confident, and everything that I aspire to be. My jaw was on the floor the second that they came onto the stage, it was their world and we were all just living in it.

Hopefully both of these artists will take another trip to Austin soon, I know I’ll be there when they do!

Coin at House of Blues Dallas

On Sunday, February 17th, Coin brought their latest tour to the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into my third Coin show. Previously, Coin had been a small band that sort of felt like my own little secret, thanks to a few friends with stellar music taste who introduced me early. Now, Coin was playing a sold-out show at the House of Blues, their biggest sellout to date.

If you’re a die-hard Coin fan, you’ll know that a big part of what makes them so special is their ability to make an ever-growing fanbase feel like family, in fact, “welcome home” is a phrase you’ll hear a lot within their community. The environment created within a Coin show is one of acceptance, togetherness, and a light that is hard to put into words. As a more casual fan, I was welcomed with open arms by even the most hardcore of fans, those who had traveled from across the country, been fans from the jump, and everyone in between made me feel like I was every bit a part of the family as they were, something you don’t find too often, especially when a band has a young audience.

Every song, old and new, blended seamlessly, my favorites of the night were Run (in my opinion Coin’s best work), an unreleased song called Crash My Car, and their newest single I Want It All. I found myself dancing in the aisles, dancing up the stairs to the balcony, and all the way out to the merch table (I even caught a few chaperones dancing throughout the night.)

As if their ability to create consistently incredible music wasn’t enough, the members of Coin are some of the most kind and genuine people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. It says a lot about an artist's character in the way they interact with their fans, Chase Lawrence has a heart of solid gold. At every Coin show I’ve been to, he’s without fail meeting every fan that stays behind to meet him, greeting them like they’re old friends and taking as many pictures as they want. Even Sunday when he was being rushed away, he stayed to make sure that everyone got a photo and the opportunity to say hello. The same can be said about their drummer, Ryan Winnen, who made everyone feel included and intently listened to anything and everything that was being said.

After Sunday’s show I know without a doubt that I will continue to be a Coin fan through and through forever. I cannot wait to see what these guys do next.
