Gallery: Pierre Bourne in ATX

My first show back at Emo’s (my home away from home) was new and exciting and a perfect welcome back!

Before this show, I was unfamiliar with Pierre Bourne, but after a Spotify deep dive, I was super excited to hear him live and he did not disappoint. The energy in the room was electric, with hundreds of people all celebrating their favorite artist and the return of live music. My favorite part about this show was his crowd interactions, the love that Pierre has for his audience is apparent and shines through from the way he performs his music to the way he shares himself with his fans.

I left this show a huge fan of Pierre Bourne, and after his first tour through the US, I know he is on his way to doing even bigger things.

LIVE MUSIC IS BACK!! Rome and Duddy at Haute Spot in Cedar Park,Texas

Oh my gosh can you believe it?? A real concert, wow it’s good to be back.

What a crazy year it’s been, I’m so grateful to be back doing what I love and sharing with you the magic that I see in live music.

For my first show in over a year, I couldn’t have asked for a better time than I had with Rome and Duddy. To be honest, I wasn’t familiar with them before the show, but I left a die-hard fan.

In case you don’t know, Rome and Duddy is a collaboration between Rome from Sublime with Rome, and Duddy from Dirty Heads, a match made in chilled-out heaven. I was so nervous coming back, but as soon as they started playing, all of my worries went away.

Their set was pretty laid-back, stripped down with just them and their acoustic guitars, playing hits from both of their projects as well as covers and a few originals. I didn’t know many of the songs, but by the end I was singing along and dancing around like I’d been listening to them for years. Their set felt less like a concert and more like a backyard hangout with your best friends, they were so inviting and friendly and shared so many stories about their lives and their experiences that even as a newcomer, I was able to really get a good sense of who they are and I loved it.

I may be a little late to the party, but I won’t be missing out on Rome and Duddy anymore. If you have a chance, check them out and make sure to catch a show, you won’t regret it.

Joan in Texas

For my last shows before the end of the world, I couldn’t have asked for a better send-off than Joan and Ralph.

I’ve been known to frequent what we call a “Texas Triangle” tour (where an artist plays Houston, Dallas, and Austin), but I haven’t been quite as excited for a Texas Triangle as I was when I found out I would get to see Joan three days in a row.

The opener, Ralph, was someone I was unfamiliar with, but by the end of the third day, I felt like she was an old friend. She has a warmth about her that makes you feel like you can dance like an idiot and sing off key and not have a care in the world, like the cool big sister you always wanted.

My first time seeing Joan was several years ago when they opened for Coin at Stubb’s indoor, so it was extra special when I got the chance to see them headline there. I’ve seen Joan so many times, all over the country, and I still find new things to love about them. It was incredible to see them at their own show, they were so confident and made everything look effortless, I was so proud to see how far they've come.

The talent that they have is undeniable, but my favorite thing about Joan is how much they love the fans that love them. I’ve been lucky enough to develop a rapport with Joan over the years and with the way that they treat my friends and I, they have a fan for life. It’s not often that you feel so at home at a concert, but being at a Joan show with my best friends feels like one of the safest places in the world, it genuinely feels like I have a family in this band. They are two of the nicest people you will ever come across and I know that they will continue to be successful not only because of their music (which never misses lets be real), but because of their genuine love for people.

I’m so grateful that I got to experience this tour before the world shut down, and couldn’t have asked for a better last show, dancing and singing and laughing and hugging all of my friends. This is what live music is all about for me.

Olivia O'Brien at Emo's

Hello, world, meet my newest obsession, Olivia O’Brien.

After gaining instant popularity with her hit, “I Hate U, I Love U” with Gnash, Olivia O’Brien continued her rise into total pop-superstardom. Like everyone else in the world, I loved her collaboration with Gnash, but her song “Tequilawine” was a staple in my playlists and frequently featured in my On Repeat list. Fully obsessed with that song, I knew I had to see her when she came to Austin.

From the jump, Olivia took control of the stage. She exudes a confidence that I could only wish to have. From flawless vocals, to dancing all around the room, you couldn't help but be in awe of her. It was completely evident that she loves her fans, she somehow made everyone there feel like her best friend and showed a vulnerability and honesty that just established that bond even more.

I cannot say enough good things about Olivia O’Brien, if you’re looking for a classic pop queen with a little bit of edge and a lot of humility, she’s your girl. I have no doubt we’ll continue to see her rise in popularity, you’ll definitely see me at more of her shows in the future.

Gallery: Nightly with Sawyer and The Wldlfe

Nightly, with opening bands Sawyer and The Wldlfe, was another one of those tours that I wish never ended.

Before this tour, I had listened to Nightly and The Wldlfe religiously, but was pleasantly surprised to find a new favorite in Sawyer. Their set was so much fun, and by the end my friends and I were screaming along to every song. I subsequently added a Sawyer song (or 3) into almost every one of my playlists, I just cannot get enough of them.

This tour was my first time to see The Wldlfe, despite being a fan of theirs for a few years. They did not disappoint in the slightest. From beginning to end their set was full of energy, with the lead singer even doing a stage dive by the end (in true rockstar fashion). I will never forget dancing and singing along to their set with all of my best friends.

Nightly is one of a kind. Fresh off of a switch from a label to independence, they shined. With confidence overflowing and a connection to their fans that is certainly rare, going to a Nightly show is like stepping into a family gathering. You can feel the love for their fans radiating from them, and the crowd reciprocates ten fold, it truly is something special to witness and be a part of.

After the release of their debut album, I cannot wait for the next time I am able to see a Nightly show.
