Sign Of The Times
This morning, well, in the middle of the night in Texas if we're being honest, Harry Styles blessed the world with his first single, Sign of the Times.
It's no secret that I am a One Direction fan; but with this debut, Harry Styles has established himself as a true artist and I've all but completely disconnected him from the boy band that thrust him into superstar territory with a song that will surely appeal to not only One Direction fans, but to a newer, older audience.
Sign of the Times is a completely unexpected move, given that this is his first release sans 1D, and without question blows Mind of Mine and This Town, solo releases from former bandmates Zayn Malik and Niall Horan, out of the water. Everything from the lyrics to the production highlights the growth, artistry, and heart that Styles has achieved so perfectly that it's hard to grasp that this is only the beginning for him as a solo artist.
With elements that are reminiscent of David Bowie and Queen, this song reintroduces a relatively young demographic to the kind of dreamy, powerful ballads of the past while still managing to create something new and exciting.
Harry Styles has without a doubt broken through his boy band past and given us something truly special, an instant classic.
I can't wait to see where he'll take it next.
