Clairo in Austin — Tape and Glue Magazine

This fall, Clairo brought her Immunity tour to Emo’s in Austin,TX.

With one of the best albums released this year, I was beyond excited for the opportunity to see Clairo live for the first time. It seemed like her album, Immunity, was popping up everywhere, and I had Closer to You and Bags on repeat since the day they came out.

To open the show, Beabadoobee was phenomenal. I had heard a lot about her because of her connection to The 1975, and was eager to finally check out her music. Her music is very reminiscent of a few of my favorite artists, Pale Waves and The Japanese House, and I quickly became a fan. The crowd was quickly won over by her quiet confidence and genuine interactions, even after her set, fans were buzzing about which songs they liked most.

Surprisingly, Clairo opened the show with Alewife, a heart-wrenching ballad. It felt like the perfect introduction, an opportunity for her to establish her relationship with the audience immediately and become transparent and vulnerable. For my favorite song, Bags, she requested that everyone put away their cell phones and just exist in the moment, something that I’m seeing a lot at shows now, especially when artists are playing their more vulnerable tracks. Seeing everyone respectfully comply and take the opportunity to build a genuine connection was one of the best parts of the night.

Overall, this show was unique and completely unlike what I was expecting. I left feeling like I was a part of something special, and that's one of the reasons why I will one hundred percent be going to her shows in the future.
