The Brook and the Bluff with Sawyer

I had an absolute blast seeing The Brook and the Bluff for the first time. They bring such a fun energy to the stage and have some of the most kindhearted, welcoming fans that I have ever met.

Going into this show, I was very familiar with opening band Sawyer, in fact, they have been one of my favorites for a while now. Their set was just as fun as I expected, they are one hundred percent going to be a massive hit soon.

I was less familiar with The Brook and the Bluff but after a few songs I became a big fan. I think my favorite song was “Halfway Up”, it seemed to be a crowd favorite too. The environment that this band cultivates was enough to get me hooked right away. Everyone I met was kind and talked excitedly about the band when I asked about their favorite songs that I should look out for. The Brook and the Bluff put on one heck of a show, I can't wait for the next time they’re in Austin.

After waiting 5 years to see them, Lewis Del Mar did not disappoint.

Opening artist Mobley was one of a kind. I’ve been to hundreds and hundreds of shows and have never seen anything like him, he definitely gained a new fan.

Lewis Del Mar puts on one hell of a show. I had a blast singing and dancing along with everyone in the crowd and hearing some familiar favorites and some newer tracks. For my first show back at my favorite venue, I’m glad it was for them.

To be honest, I’m already counting down until I can see Lewis del Mar again, if you get the chance to see them live, take it , you won’t regret it .

Andrew Belle in Chicago, IL

Even after almost 15 years, I still can't get enough of Andrew Belle.

I was lucky enough to be in Chicago for Andrew’s first show in 2 years, even luckier that it was in a venue as small as Schubas.

I’m a total sucker for a stripped-down acoustic show, there’s something magical and vulnerable about an artist playing a show with nothing but a guitar (and, in Andrew’s case, a piano). For this set, he chose the perfect blend of familiar favorites and the singles from his newest record, Nightshade. I was pleasantly surprised to hear my absolute favorite song, Oh My Stars, that has stayed my favorite for the last ten years, make the setlist.

My favorite part of the performance was the little interactions he had with the audience, it felt like we were watching a friend play in their living room. Andrew showed a lot vulnerability and, even when he forgot a few of the lyrics to the older songs, played around with the audience and was completely relaxed and in his element. Listening to the stories behind some of the music and hearing about his life made me love the songs even more and made the experience even more special.

Even after all this time, I will still be going to Andrew Belle shows and listening to every record he puts out, his music just continues to get better and better and I can’t wait to see where he goes from here.

Phoebe Bridgers and Muna in Indianapolis,IN

As someone who drove 17 hours to Indiana to see this show, let me tell you it is not one that you want to miss.

To start off the show, Muna was absolutely perfect. I know I’m probably biased because they’re my favorite band of all time, but their energy and presence is undeniable. What I love most about Muna is their ability to make everyone in the room, no matter how big that space is, feel like they are welcomed, loved and important. They created such a safe environment for everyone to dance and sing and be completely themselves and it was truly beautiful to see.

I've been listening to Phoebe Bridgers for a few years now but this was my first chance to see her live. From the second she came on stage, everyone was completely enamored. She lit up the room and had such a control of the stage you couldn’t help but fall in love with her. My favorite thing about her set was the elaborate productions for each song that really captivated you and brought you into each story as the songs went on. If you had never heard those songs before, by the end you felt like you had lived each and every one of them.

Phoebe has a quiet confidence that radiates from the stage and invites you into the world of her design. With a repertoire of emotionally vulnerable music, she tells her stories with wisdom and passion dripping from every line. The setlist included the perfect mix of familiar favorites like “Motion Sickness”, “Funeral”, and “Kyoto” and newer tracks, ending with a cover of Bo Burnham’s “That Funny Feeling”, an overall perfect introduction to her sound for those who are unfamiliar, and exactly what a die-hard fan wants from a performance.

Phoebe’s talent is undeniable and I truly believe that she is one of the best storytellers of our generation.

If you have the chance, don’t miss this tour, it is truly something spectacular.

PVRIS at Emo's

My first PVRIS show was definitely the first of many.

For a few years now I have been a casual listener of PVRIS, and I finally got to see them live this month. I hadn’t been this excited for a show in a while and it definitely did not disappoint!

The show started with Royal and the Serpent, a relatively new band that has been making waves on social media this year. This band was unlike anything I have ever seen before, the lead singer was so unapologetically herself, and performed with a boldness and presence that was magnetic. Immediately, they ramped up the energy and created a fun and exciting atmosphere for the rest of the show. It’s always so exciting to discover new favorites at shows, I can’t wait to see what they do next.

PVRIS is a band that puts on the kind of show that you never forget. Lead singer Lynn completely dominates the stage and commands attention at every moment. It was incredible to see her utilize the stage and perform with such powerful emotion for each song. Even with such a dominant presence, she was very vulnerable and created an environment for the fans that felt safe and welcoming. She interacted with the crowd and made everyone feel like they were important and like she was grateful for each and every person in the room. My favorite part about this set was the simplicity of the production, with monochromatic lighting and a stage that left Lynn front and center and with nothing but empty space around her (the rest of the band were on risers towards the back of the stage). The production highlighted Lynn’s talent and really put on display her complete control of the room.

In addition to some of my familiar favorites, I found each new song exciting and immediately added all of them to my playlists. I think it’s safe to say that PVRIS is one of the greatest live acts I have seen, and now one of my favorite bands. I won’t hesitate to come out to their next show, and quite frankly, neither should you.
