Y’all, I got to see one of my childhood favorites and I am on cloud nine.

I recently had the opportunity to see Jojo live at Scoot Inn and both thirteen year old and twenty six year old me were ecstatic.

After several years, Jojo is back on tour and better than ever.

Jojo’s stage presence is unbelievable, she completely commands the stage and engages her audience like none other. I found it hard to take photos when all I wanted to do was watch her perform. I truly believe that Jojo has one of the greatest voices of our generation, her talent is undeniable and only got better over the years.

My favorite part of the show (other than seeing someone I’ve admired for years) was the interactions that I had with her fans. Jojo had one of the nicest crowds that I’d ever interacted with. Her fans welcomed a newcomer with open arms and sang and danced with me through the whole show.

One thing is for certain, I will one hundred percent be there when Jojo comes back to Austin.

meet me at the altar at empire

If you’re looking for a new favorite band, allow me to introduce you to Meet Me at the Altar.

Recently I had the opportunity to see Meet Me at the Altar on their run with Knuckle Puck and when I say I can’t get their songs out of my head I mean it.

As if their music wasn’t cool enough, this band is five of the coolest girls you’ll ever see, something that we definitely don’t see very often. Lead singer Edith is the punk rock superstar we all dreamed of being when we were young (if you were anything like me), her voice is akin to Demi Lovato but with a rock twist and even while dancing and running around the stage, sounded like absolute perfection.

The crowd was completely hooked on them, even protesting when they said they were about to play their last song, i think everyone there would have gladly listened to several more. My favorites of the night were Garden and Feel a Thing, both of which are permanent staples in my playlists.

If you have the opportunity to see Meet Me at the Altar on this current run or their tours later this year, take it, it might just be the most fun show you’ve ever been to.

genevieve stokes and briston maroney at antone’s

Last week I had the opportunity to see Genevieve Stokes and Briston Maroney at a sold-out show at Antone’s in Austin,TX.

Watching Genevieve Stokes perform, I knew I was witnessing something special. At only 21, Genevieve writes and performs beyond her years, each song made me fall more and more in love with her music , I immediately added them to my Spotify playlists. My favorite moment from her set was without a doubt her performance of Surface Tension, a gut-wrenching song that is so beautifully written and easy to get caught up in. I feel very privileged to have seen someone I know will be a massive success at the beginning of their career.

Briston Maroney’s set brought an energy to Antone’s that I’ve never seen before. The crowd was packed wall to wall, everyone screamed every lyric and created a rowdy, exciting and high-energy environment that was so much fun.

Briston’s on-stage banter and interactions with the crowd were a highlight for me, from little jokes to stories about the songs’ meanings, everything about these moments just made me like him and connect with his music more.

My favorite songs from Briston’s set were “It’s Still Cool if You Don’t” (a staple in my current playlists) and a fan favorite “Freakin Out on the Interstate”. By the end of the first few songs, I felt like I’d ran a marathon from dancing and singing along with the crowd.

If you have the chance to see either of these artists live, take it, you won’t regret it.

jake scott at antone’s

I had the amazing opportunity to see and photograph Jake Scott at Antone’s in Austin, TX and I’m so glad i took it.

There have been very few times where I have seen Antone’s as packed and wild as it was when Jake Scott came through. The crowd was so much fun and made the experience even more exciting.

Jake was made to perform, his stage presence was completely dynamic, he owned every second. My favorite songs of the night were Goldenboy and Lie, but I found myself singing along to almost every song by the end.

One thing I know for certain is that Jake Scott is only going to find more and more success, I’m glad I got to witness his talent in such a small venue.

The Aces at emo’s

Oh my god y’all.

The Aces were a band that I was just a casual fan of, I had a few of their songs scattered around my playlists, nothing too crazy, until I saw them live on the last night of their tour in Austin, TX.

When I say this band is made to perform, I mean it. Each and every member lights up the stage. I probably looked like a cartoon character turning my head so fast, trying to catch every second of the action.

The community created by The Aces is a thing of beauty. I felt so welcomed by every fan, we were all sharing a collective experience that felt so freeing and special, there really aren’t words to describe it.

My favorite songs of the night were Don’t Freak and I Can Break Your Heart Too, but honestly, you’ll find every song from the setlist on my playlist.

One thing I know for sure is that I will be there the next time The Aces make their way back to Austin.
