GAYLE IN AUSTIN

I recently had the opportunity to see Gayle open for AJR in Austin and wow am I glad I took it.

Going into this show, I only knew Gayle from her song “abcdefu” that’s currently taking over the world, and I was excited to see her play more.
When I say that Gayle has one of the most naturally amazing voices I’ve heard in a while, I mean it. She makes everything look effortless and cool, like belting out high notes is no big thing.

My favorite part of her set was her cover of Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” (one of my favorite songs of all time.) I had a blast singing and dancing along with the rest of the crowd and Gayle looked like she was having just as much fun on the stage. When it came time to perform “abcdefu” the crowd went INSANE. The whole amphitheater was screaming the words, excited to hear the song that’s been playing on all of their radios for months.

Overall, I had so much fun at this show and cannot wait for Gayle to co back to Austin, I know this is just the beginning for her.

ericdoa at antone’s

I recently had the opportunity to see Ericdoa at Antone’s in Austin, TX and WOW, I’m so glad I went.

Ericdoa started his show by saying that Texas was the 50th state to listen to his music, so each and every fan in that packed room was a true die-hard and so special to him. Because they were all so clearly invested in him (the crowd was absolutely wild), he played a few new songs that he only played for the Austin crowd, and mentioned several times how grateful he was that they were there. The crowd definitely influenced his energy, he was all over the stage, at some points it even looked like he might just jump into the crowd to dance with everyone.

Throughout the show, it became very clear why Ericdoa has recommendations from some of the biggest names in music, even at such a young age, his talent is undeniable. My favorite part of this show was interacting with the fans, who were all to eager to tell me which songs were their favorite, how they got into the music and the impact that Ericdoa had on them.

Overall, I had an absolute blast seeing Ericdoa and will jump on the opportunity to catch him next time he’s in Austin.

wolf alice at emos

My first time seeing Wolf Alice was nothing short of magical.

I had heard so many great things about Wolf Alice, but hadn’t really ever listened to their music before, so I was going into their show at Emo’s totally blind. Starting their set with Smile, they set me up for a night that I’ll never forget. Immediately I fell in love, lead singer Ellie Rowsell’s performance is next-level spectacular, her presence is so confident and commanding that you have no choice but to give her your undying attention. Even with the star power of lead singer Ellie, the other members of the band hold their own, they almost demand the same amount of attention, especially bass player Theo (who was performing extra hard because it was his birthday show, and who doesn’t want to show out on their birthday!)

My favorite songs from the set were Formidable Cool, Silk, and their last song Don’t Delete the Kisses, all of which have become staples in my playlists. Wolf Alice’s fans are a huge part of the show as well, their energy was electric, they danced and sang along to every song and even started a small mosh pit towards the end! I met so many amazing people that night, each with their own stories and favorite memories of their favorite band.

I may have gone into this show with zero knowledge of Wolf Alice, but I one-hundred percent left a mega fan, hopefully they’ll make a return to Austin soon, I know I’ll be there.

The band camino at acl live

My third time seeing The Band Camino was nothing short of spectacular.

I recently had the opportunity to see The Band Camino on their sold-out headliner and their star power was undeniable. Opening with Ultimate, they started the set off with an electric energy that would only increase as the show went on. Singer Jeffery Jordan is beyond entertaining and wildly talented, and Spencer Stewart is talented beyond his years.

For the third song, Roses, during the first chorus the fans in the front rows all threw roses on the stage, much to the delight of the band. The crowd was beyond excited, screaming and singing along to every song, it felt almost akin Beatle mania. As a massive fan of The Band Camino, I was ecstatic when they played their older songs like “Know Me”, “California”, and “What I Want”, and absolutely loved hearing songs that hadn’t been played before live.

Over the years, it’s been incredible to see just how much The Band Camino has grown, I can’t even imagine where they’ll be in the years to come.

Charlie Hickey at Emo’s

I recently got the opportunity to see Charlie Hickey opening for Wolf Alice at Emo’s and let me tell you, this guy is about to be HUGE.

I first saw Charlie Hickey at this year’s SXSW and immediately was hooked. His sound is so unique and he is so vulnerable and endearing that you can’t help but love him. After his performance at the Saddest Factory showcase this year, I was more than excited to see him again at Emo’s.

As a performer, Charlie has a quiet strength, he is shy but so warm and inviting, I was hanging on to every word of each song. My favorite song of the set was Seeing Things, I have added it to every playlist and it’s quickly become a staple. Even with a few technical hiccups, Charlie’s set was everything I wanted and more and I was sad when it ended.

One thing I know for sure is that I will be catching Charlie the next time he’s in Austin.
